Product Description

Delivering a great blend of technology, innovation and playability, Callaway's X-20 iron set for 2010 offer traditional styling and Callaway Golf core technologies while providing the performance and forgiveness to play the game with enhanced confidence.

Callaway's X-20 irons (see a pop-up image with specs for this set).
VFT Technology maximizes ball speed and perimeter weighting for more distance and forgiveness and S2H2 increases discretionary weight by removing it from the hosel and repositioning it in the perimeter of the clubhead.

This right-handed 6-club set features steel shafts and includes the following clubs: #4 iron through Pitching Wedge plus Sand Wedge (#4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, PW, SW).

Callaway Core Technology: 360-Degree Undercut Channel

The 360-Degree Undercut Channel found in these Callaway irons (seen at left) maximizes perimeter weighting by moving the center of gravity (CG) lower and farther back in the clubhead, enlarging the hitting area and stabilizing the clubhead for more forgiveness.

Callaway Core Technology: VFT Technology

With Callaway's VFT Technology, the club creates higher ball speeds across the entire face, meaning hotter distance with more consistency. The face is thicker in the center and ultra-thin around the edges, which allows more energy from the impact of the clubface to be transferred to the ball. In irons, VFT Technology allows Callaway Golf engineers to lower the center of gravity for optimum trajectory with each iron in the set, giving a higher launch angle in the long irons and better trajectory height in short irons and wedges.

Callaway Core Technology: S2H2

Callaway's patented Short, Straight, Hollow, Hosel (S2H2) shortened the length of the hosel, allowing weight to be moved lower and to the more useful perimeter area of the clubhead. This bore-through design (Modified Tru-Bore Technology) allows the shaft tip to extend through the hosel and clubhead to the sole, improving feel and control by moving the tip of the shaft closer to the center of the clubface.

Personal Review

I got the chance to try these new irons from Callaway at the range a few weeks back. The biggest chance between these and the older ones is that the 2010 edition includes USGA's new groove rule conforming grooves.

Another major chance is that X-20 NG's don't have a bore through shaft anymore. Instead they include a standard blind bore shaft. To be perfectly honest, I don't have a clue what does that change.

And as with most Callaway clubs, you can see that they look very forgiving. They have notch weighting that moves weight to the perimeter, increasing your MOI, making it a more forgiving club. It also has a little bit of a wider sole than other irons, so it is going to be a little more forgiving out of the turf, and is a great club for the all around player.

Personally I think they are great irons and would recommend them to all the players that still need a bit of forgiveness in their irons.

I love my x-20s and their uniflex shafts.

I have played with my new x20s for about 3 weeks and they are great thus far. It took me no time to get used to them after replacing my 10 to 15 year old TaylorMade LCGs. I am getting about the same distance and my ball flight is a little higher on my long irons. This is something I always wanted and I think it is due to uniflex shaft. When I read reviews, some reviews stated that uniflex gives you a higher ball flight. I did not really believe that, but it does. My old irons contained regular shafts. The shaft was one of my concerns before I purchased these irons. I requested regular shafts which the company did not send because of the great price. The regular shafts were about $55 more than the uniflex. I am enjoying my uniflex shafts and my new x20s. Kevin
